Yesterday, one of my closest friends Gabby Dizon announced that his startup Yield Guild Games (https://yieldguild.io) had closed a $4M Series A investment round, just a year after its formation. YGG posits the question: how do you systematize play-to-earn gaming and scale it up to become a viable career path for Filipinos? Raising $4M is the first strong step towards answering that question. Congratulations, Gabs. Drinks on me the next time you or Beryl are in LU. https://venturebeat.com/2021/06/16/yield-guild-games-raises-4-million-for-the-play-to-earn-era-of-games/
A couple of years ago, I co-wrote and designed The Little Bitcoin Book by flying to the states and locking myself in a house with my 7 co-authors for a week. The book is a simple introduction to Bitcoin for non-technical readers and focuses on its socio-economic impact on society. It’s currently available in 8 languages, translated by partners and volunteers from all over the world. Yesterday, we decided to make the Spanish version FREE for anyone to download directly from our website at https://littlebitcoinbook.com
It was “Fed Day” in the US a couple of hours ago. Surprise, surprise: overall inflation is expected to increase to 3.4% this year. And in case you were wondering, our own BSP is forecasting inflation of 4.2% for the Philippines this year. You probably already know what I’m about to say, but I’ll say it anyway: it’s time for Plan B, guys. https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2021/06/16/federal-reserve-officials-see-much-higher-inflation-and-economic-growth-ahead/amp/
Interestingly: neither $BTC nor $ETH registered any price appreciation as a result of these pronouncements from the Fed. Even $DOT, which I wrote about yesterday, only saw a momentary bump post-Coinbase listing, and has retreated to $22, down 10% on the day.
For Cardano fans, here’s some content that’ll last you until probably mid-July. Lex Fridman sits down for 5 HOURS with Charles Hoskinson to talk about $ADA, $ETH, $BTC, $DOGE, etc, etc.
On Thursday June 24th at 3pm, Binance is unveiling its all-new NFT marketplace at https://nft.binance.com. I’m one of a couple of Filipino creators who will be selling artwork on day 1, and I hope that you all drop by and give it a look. (If you’ve never seen any of my work, check out my gallery at makersplace.com/cryptopop.) I’ll be sharing a teaser of the new piece, a collaboration with Filipino musician Ian Magbanua, early next week!
Speaking of collaborations, this one is a bit of a head-scratcher: $KEEP and $NU are merging their networks in what is possibly the first “hard merge” we’ve ever witnessed in the blockchain space. It’s typically much easier to fork off from an existing blockchain (we call those “hard forks”) since, by definition, you are in a disagreement before it happens. In this case, it appears that the community on both sides had somehow come to a decision that $KEEP and $NU were better off as a single protocol instead of competing. The new love-child is codenamed KEANU … and you gotta wonder if it was the name that sold a lot of community members on the idea. At the very least, I suppose it made it easier to find images for all the explainer posts they needed to write. If you’re holding either $KEEP or $NU, read through this article to see how token holders will be affected. https://blog.nucypher.com/keanu-is-a-go/
Thanks for reading, cryptofam. I won’t be publishing a Cryptoday briefing tomorrow morning coz we’re driving back to La Union, so I’ll see you all bright and early on Monday morning!
